Hoffman plays a sullen and cowardly loner haunted by the suicide of his father, a suspected communist. Dustin Hoffman at his best
Don't watch this if you've got a dentist appointment (that's a hint). Taut thriller with great suspense. That underrated actor Roy Scheider (Jaws) steals the scenes he's in with Hoffman and gives a truly memorable death scene, one of the most realistic I've seen. Olivier too plays his part with chilling menace and never raises his voice.
