Product Reviews

Charmingly dated & real

Yul Brynner, coming from Russian gypsy stock, plays well in this role of tribal chief in colonial 1920's India. Not the overpowering macho presence he gave in The Magificent 7 movies, but realistically strong & charismatic, with a romantic human side. Some actors are Europeans with brown paint, but that's just humour value now we look back at that golden movie era. Having spent much time in a colonial Indian hill station, I can verify the historical truth here. Amid the serious message of British rule by force that sadly persists today, it's a real feel good movie with some fine acting & arid scenery.
