After delivering parts for the atomic bomb that would later be dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, the naval cruiser USS Indianapolis is torpedoed by a Japanese submarine while patrolling the Philippine Sea. Left with no option but to abandon ship, Captain Charles McVay (Cage) and hundreds of his crew are left stranded in open seas with no food or water.
